White, who is pursuing studies in innovation leadership skills, as well as a bachelor’s degree in applied technology studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology, designed the product in February; it is already available for purchase.

JERSEY SHORE – Pennsylvania College of Technology student Trey L. White uses the tools of innovation even during his downtime.

This is how the Jersey Shore area resident came up with the Chillin ‘Chair Challenge, a product he came up with in February that is already available for purchase.

The Chillin ‘Chair Challenge is a compact and lightweight throwing game that attaches to the back of a camping chair or other chair.

The game “Advice” is made of ripstop nylon with seven mesh pockets of different sizes that carry different stitch values. Attached straps clip around and over the top of a chair back. Players stand about 8 feet from the chair and throw foam golf balls into the holes. The game and balls fold neatly into a carrying pouch, which weighs a total of 8.8 ounces. It’s also small enough to fold neatly into a folding camping chair.

“The intention is to provide something that people can put in their cars or their glove boxes and still have something to do” said Blanc.

The idea arose when he and his wife, Nicole, were looking for games they could play with their three children.

“I’m always making mind maps and different things” said Blanc. “That’s what I like to do.

” Mental map “ is a tool for stimulating ideas and creative thinking, one of the many courses taught as part of the college’s Innovation Leadership Course. White is pursuing the college’s Innovation Leadership Competency Diploma – offered in partnership with renowned Eureka! Ranch – with a bachelor’s degree in applied technological studies. He received an Associate’s Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology (now known as Engineering CAD Technology) from Penn College in 2008.

With a vision for his new game in mind, he purchased hardware from Walmart and, although he had no experience with a sewing machine, made the prototype himself.

“I went through what the PDSA cycle is in terms of innovation”, he explained. PDSA is a shorthand for Plan-Do-Study-Act. The family experimented with what kind of throwing object would work best, and thanks to further feedback, he added a second strap to the top of the game to stabilize it when strapped to the chair. “You make a plan, try things out, and that’s what we ended up with.”

White then filed for a provisional patent and by the time of Memorial Day he was selling the Chillin ‘Chair Challenge online at www.tlwoutdoorsllc.com – just three months after he got the idea, although he was working on time. full (he is a project manager for First Quality, where he benefits from the company’s continuing education program) and being a committed father of three children.

“When I have something in my head, I have to take it out, or I won’t sleep” White smiles.

The games are manufactured in Williamsport by Equinox LTD.

Although he is well versed in product development and manufacturing, White is now learning the ropes of marketing. He is also on the verge of obtaining the industry-recognized black belt in innovation engineering, accessible through the Eureka! Ranch after successfully completing all components of the college’s Innovation Leadership course and creating a concrete project proposal.

And he’s already planning his next innovation for TLW Outdoors.
