World of Warcraft Gets a Pandemic Board Game – Here’s How It Could Work

A board game cross between World of Warcraft and the Pandemic series was teased via a short YouTube trailer. Based on the Wrath of the Lich King DLC, this mashup is slated to launch later in 2021 – in the fall, to be precise.
Details are scarce at this time, but the board, dice, and some game pieces can be seen at the end of the video. Besides the Lich King himself (implying that he will have an active role in the game), which also appears to be his function as undead minions of the Scourge. This suggests that this World of Warcraft and Pandemic board game crossover could represent either the invasion of the Lich King from the DLC, the new plague that has unleashed throughout its history, or even the infamous Lich King’s Disease. corrupt blood that was rampant throughout the player base.
Any of these would make sense in terms of mechanics. It looks like the Scourge is replacing the disease cubes in this particular version of Pandemic, and if it looks like the original (which is easily one of the better board games, if you’re wondering), they’ll spread to one place to another in a domino effect if they are not stopped. PR material suggests that the action is also taking place in the Lich King’s territory, Northrend, so it’s possible that we need to control the Scourge before it overwhelms the rest of the world.
Oddly enough, the smaller Scourge figures aren’t the only enemies we’ll be fighting – larger models can be seen in the YouTube reveal as well. And âfightâ might be the right word; dice with what I can only assume are combat and defense icons scrolling across the screen, suggesting that we will need to take a more active role in the fights.
Speaking of which, the game’s playable characters seem to be WoW mainstays Sylvanas, Thrall, and Varian Wrynn (which makes sense considering they all played a role in the Wrath of the Lich King DLC). Since the game normally features five heroes in total, more will likely be revealed later during the full reveal.
